Originally established as a division of Supply Oilfield Services Inc., the company pioneered logistics and operational support services during the early years of oil and gas exploration in the Philippines. In 2000, its offshore employment-related operations were spun off into a separate legal entity—allowing SOMPS to sharpen its focus and strengthen its capabilities in providing innovative, integrated manpower solutions.
Since the 1970s, SOMPS has consistently supported the evolving needs of the energy sector by leveraging deep industry knowledge, field-proven expertise, and a client-centric approach. This long-standing experience enables the company to deliver customized services that support operational efficiency, safety, and business growth.
Our History
Built on Vision, Experience, and Resilience
SOMPS was founded by Mr. Louis Paul Heussaff, a French Navy officer and engineer, whose technical background and passion for exploration led him to recognize the growing opportunities within the oil and gas industry during the 1970s. Despite the challenges posed by the global oil crisis at the time, Mr. Heussaff remained committed to his vision and officially incorporated SOMPS in March 1979.
In its early years, the company focused on providing logistics support, skilled personnel, and essential operational services to foreign and local companies engaged in oil and gas exploration and development—both in the Philippines and overseas. Mr. Heussaff’s hands-on field experience, coupled with his can-do attitude, aligned seamlessly with the industry’s push toward new frontiers such as offshore exploration.
This foundation enabled SOMPS to rapidly establish itself as a reliable and competent partner of leading multinational energy companies, including Shell, Occidental Petroleum, Nippon Oil, and British Gas. By the late 1980s, SOMPS had partnered with all oil companies operating in the Philippines—a testament to its credibility, performance, and commitment to excellence.
